What this does

Privacy-Preserving Electorate Lookup (P-PEL) helps people find their Australian federal and/or state electorate. If you see your electorate listed and want to select it, then go ahead.

What this doesn’t do

Anything other than finding the right electorate for the right address. We are working to reduce barriers to participation in democracy. This is the first step towards engagement with representatives.

What do we mean by “privacy-preserving”?

P-PEL asks for only the data it needs to accurately identify your electorates. Around 75% of Australian postcodes resolve to a single federal electorate. So, for most of Australia, that’s all you need. For others, you might need to enter your town or suburb. A small number require street name and number.

In addition, P-PEL runs all its calculations on your device and does not send any of your address or electorate information to Democracy Developers. You can read the source code or a description of the lookup structure.
