What does it do? Why?

Privacy-preserving electorate lookup (P-PEL) helps you find your Australian federal and/or state electorates. You can also select your electorate if you see it in the list.

We are working to reduce barriers to participation in democracy. This is the first step towards engagement with representatives.

What do you mean by “privacy-preserving”?

P-PEL asks for the least identifying data necessary to give you the correct result. In addition, P-PEL runs on your device and does not send any of your address or electorate information to Democracy Developers. You can read the source code or a description of the lookup structure.

Is it guaranteed to be perfect?

We have worked hard to make P-PEL as accurate as we can, based on the most recent data from Geoscape Australia and The Australian Bureau of Statistics. However, this is not an official site, and you should always check with the appropriate Electoral Commission before you vote. If you find that our results diverge from the official ones, please use the feedback button to tell us.
